DAILY DRIVE: BANANAS CARRIER T1 DOKA!!!!

I found this nice T1 Doka during my short pre-holidays a week ago.

It is a daily drive, runs great and her proud owner uses her to carry bananas from the plantation to the packing store....


Only the new reverse lights and the inner sealed cargo doors were ugly on her....



It´s amazing dokas like this one still work everyday in our islands!!! We´re lucky. What a pity all those which didn´t survive the pass of time (hundreds....)

BARNFIND

Found in the least expected place, a few yards from home!!! Rusty 2nd generation Notchback, a dent in the right front and without engine.... What a pity!

Luckily the guy who discovered it before us is going to restore it...!!!

TÜV ARRANGEMENTS

Yesterday we took Gloria to the Garage to prepare her for the ITV (Spanish Vehicles Technical Inspection). We had to change her steering box, from the comfortable but unfittable mexican one to her original box re-built at a local steel workshop.


This is the mexican box that it´s now going to replace Gertrud´s to make her safer and more comfortable....


Here we can see the master of VWs, don Jose, doing his best preparing the housing for the steering box...


Next Saturday inspection, will we pass it or not???

DOKA GLORIA: RESURRECTION DAY!!!

At last resurrection day came for Gloria, which was patiently waiting for us to reinstall her re-built engine...


Here the renewed 1600 cc with new carburator, admision pipes, fuel pump, oil pump and re-built block...

The Doka Club members in action showing how can an engine be instaled with just a few tools and some good friends...

The proud dream-team after almost two hours of good job & drinks!!

NEW DOKAS IN TOWN...

Two T2a dokas have been recently restored to their former condition. The first one is in the north of the island...


It still has the special open windows on both sides of the passengers seat...


And the cargo floor has been repaired in a very imaginative way, not similar to the original but easier and cheaper to build up...

The second one, same colur, belongs to our friend Ericson and is for sale (4500 Eus)

It´s a bit younger than the previous one (early 1971) and with the same characteristics...

The engine has been rebuilt and fit to a ride condition. note the two green balls covering the heating pipes...



Nice to see they come to life again!!!!
